Sportsbook Website Review
The Star Group, the publically-listed Canadian-based international gaming giant that owns Poker Stars and BetStars and recently purchased Sky Betting, joined the New Jersey sportsbook gold rush in 1918, bringing in from offshore a wealth of know-how and financial muscle.
It began life in the year-old New Jersey sports betting market as BetStars NJ and thanks to its high-quality Star Group Proprietary Software, it was immediately taken notice of.
Its live, in-play section was and still is exceptionally strong with more betting markets than most of its US Competitors and as a premier betting product, it was quickly compared favorably with the current New Jersey market leaders FanDuel and DraftKings.
However, like the other dozen or so top-of-the-line sportsbooks that launched in New Jersey within months of the decades-old US prohibition of sportsbetting being lifted by the Supreme Court, it found FanDuel and DraftKings formidable opposition.
The two US fantasy sport juggernauts had built-up DFS user bodies of millions during the sportsbook prohibition and were able to convert many of those living in and around New Jersey into FanDuel and DraftKings users.
This is clearly the reason why in September 2019, The Stars Group, after negotiations with FOX Sport, merged its BetStars wagering platform with FOX Sports’ highly regarded media platforms and re-launched FOX Bet to give sportsbook punters an exciting new wagering alternative.
Almost simultaneously FOX sports also launched a Super 6 free-to-play sports prediction game in which players could win hundreds of thousands of dollars each week.
It immediately struck a chord with New Jersey sports punters. In the first nine days from launch, the Super 6 App was downloaded 280,000 times and from these downloads, a total of 425,000 contest entries were received.
Clearly FOX Bet has developed the Super 6 game hoping it will build a strong sports bettors base for them almost as quickly as DFS did for FanDuel and DraftKings.
The linking of BetStars’ established internationally-honed sportsbook with FOX Sports’ hugely popular sports media platform also gives them every right to call FOX Bet, the “Best of Both Worlds”.
FOX Bet is strongly impactful the minute you open its home page, be it on a laptop, tablet or smart phone.
On a light blue, dark blue and yellow back-ground you are met by the smiling faces of six of FOX sports’ better-known media personalities, among them Colin Cowherd, Charissa Thompson, Nick Wright and Cousin Sal – and you soon learn that behind each one of them there is a promotional opportunity.
You will also be struck by the standout message spread across the top of the page that tells you “Sign-up and get $20 free cash plus up to $100 more free cash on deposit.”
Moving on from Cowherd and the Fox Sports gang, you will be presented with a clean, business-like interface that is easy to understand and just as easy to navigate, especially on your smart phone.
Everything is laid out clearly for you to register, claim your free welcome bonuses, sign-in, pick-your sport and the type of bet you want to make and then get started – provided that you are 21 or older and within the borders of New Jersey.
Coming out of Europe as it has where sportsbook competition is intense and has been around since before the turn of the Century, its list of sports on which you can bet is as large and as impressive as any other sportsbook in New Jersey, including DraftKings, 888sports and Sugarhouse who are all using the internationally renowned Kambi Sports software.
Apart from all the big US favourites like NFL and College Football, NBA, WNBA and College basketball, MLB baseball, NHL ice hockey, NASCAR racing, NCAA lacrosse, NCAA softball and eSports it also offers many international favourites like soccer, tennis, golf, boxing, F1 motor racing, cricket, rugby union and cycling. And this is just for starters.
Within each sport, there are also large numbers of different leagues like soccer’s famed UK Premier League, the star-studded Spanish La-Liga, the super-efficient German Bundesliga and of course the US’s own MLS professional soccer league.
In turn, within each of these sports you can place hundreds of different types of bets, amongst them strait spread and money-line bets, futures bets, over-and-under bets, prop bets, totals bets and Round Robin bets as well as a long list of different parlay bets.
If it is instant excitement you want, FOX Bet is the one to get involved with. Along with video bet trackers, it offers an exceptionally wide range of live, in-play bets such as whether a Red Sox baseball batter at the plate will strike out or make first base or whether Patriots famed quarterback Tom Brady will next throw a touchdown pass or get sacked.
Another betting option given is the “Cash Out” feature which has recently become so fashionable in the sportsbook industry. It enables you to either cut your losses or gamble on your winnings being greater than they will be after the end result.
Bonuses and Promotions:
Apart from its welcome package offering you a free bet of $20 when you register and another match-up offer of up to $100 when you place your first deposit, FOX Bet features an imaginative promotional package that highlights its ‘Best of Both Worlds’ boast.
As already mentioned, they have cleverly connected some of FOX Sports’ best known personalities with their weekly promotions.
- Tuesday: “Rachel boosts a bet for you every Tuesday to increase your winning payout!”
- Wednesday: “Nick Wright’s parlay of the day gets increased odds.”
- Thursday: “Sal’s money-back special ensures bettors get refunded if their #custom bet doesn’t win.”
- Saturday: “Clay’s favorite Saturday pick gets boosted odds.”
- Sunday “Charissa boosts a #custom bet every Sunday night.”
- Sunday “Bettors have a chance to double their winnings on Sundays when Collin Cowherd hits his Blazin’ five picks.”
Promotions came and go, but at one time or another you are bound to run into a unique special wager at FOX Bet brought over from Europe which gives you the chance of an ultra-large payday using a Spin &Win wheel that can multiply your winnings by up to 10 times.
If you gamble on both the FOX Bet sportsbook and Poker Stars, another special feature on offer is that you will be able to use the same wallet for both – and you will be able to do it with the utmost confidence, knowing that your personal details and financial transactions are safely secured by a large global institution which cannot afford to offer anything less.
Deposit options include using Visa or MasterCard credit cards, PayPal, Instant eCheck, Neteller, Skrill, Online Banking, a Poker Stars Play+ Card, or with cash at a PayNearMe 7/11 store or at the Resort Casino Hotel’s Cashier Cage
Withdrawals have fewer options. You won’t be able to use your credit card or a 7/11 store to withdraw your winnings, but Instant eCheck, Neteller, Skrill, a Pokers Stars Play+ Card or a Resort Casino Hotel Cashier’s Cage will do just fine.
At the bottom of its home page, FOX Bet offers some customer help via a FAQ. It lists some getting-to-know facts about its sportsbook and the sports betting business. But it is nowhere near as informative as some of its bigger rivals.
For help, you can also reach them on a ‘Contact Us’ feature which calls on you to fill in a form and ask a question and promises to get back to you with an answer as soon as possible – but that’s about as good as it gets.
There is no telephone, WhatsApp or 24/7 live chat help at this time”.
The words “At this time” may indicates that the missing Customer Support services are on the way sometime in the future, but in the meantime, customer service is not FOX Bet forte
And that’s a pity because it seems to tick so many other boxes.
With customer support being the lone exception, FOX Bet, as was its forerunner StarBets, is a “premier product”.
It has one of the better sports and promotions menus in the New Jersey sportsbook market. It runs smoothly and is easy to operate
It has a single wallet you can use if you enjoy playing both FOX Bet and its big brother Pokers Stars. It has a smoothly- operated transaction system and it offers impressive bonuses and promotions.
And because it is now associated with one of the biggest media brands in sports entertainment in North America, you can expect to find more and more helpful sports video and text info when you wager with them.
It is not out of the question that large numbers of FOX Sport fans will be tempted to visit its first-ever betting operation, even if some do so out of sheer curiosity.
We would certainly recommend that you have a look. We believe there is a strong possibility you’ll like what you see and sign up.
